State and briefly explain two types of registers.

  1. Accumulator – Temporarily holds the results of the last processing step of the ALU
  2. Storage register – Temporarily holds a piece of data that is on its way to and from the CPU and the main memory.
  3. Address register – Temporarily holds the next piece of data waiting to be processed.
  4. Instruction register – Temporarily holds an instruction just before it is interpreted into a form that the CPU can understand
