Roles of the city states in East Africa?                         

  1. Centres of spreading Islam in these states.
  2. Intermarriages took place with the foreigners and inhabitants.
  3. Attraction centres especially the mosques and madrassa to convert to Islam.
  4. Trade centres – traders dwelt in these states.
  5. Centres of employment – people got employment in the areas.
  6. Establishment of social amenities e.g roads due to people coming to these centres.
