Azimio lose control as Kenya Kwanza take control of the Senate, Parliament and County governments

Johnson Sakaja (UDA) declared winner in the Nairobi Governor race as he garnered 699,392 votes

The Azimio political organization of political parties in Kenya who support Raila Odinga as their presidential candidate lost control of all the three political pillars of influence to their competitors, Kenya Kwanza in the just ended general elections that were held on the 9th of August 2022.

In the Senate, Raila’s Azimio had 22 senators as compared to Ruto’s 24 out of the maximum 47.

In parliament, Azimio had 141 members of parliament as compared to Kenya Kwanza’s 149. Kenya’s parliament has a total of 349 seats: 290 elected from the constituencies, 47 women elected from the counties, and 12 nominated representatives.

Azimio also failed to control the county gubernatorial majority by gaining 19 slots as compared to Kenya Kwanza’s 21 even though Kakamega and Mombasa slots were postponed by IEBC due to a mixup of electoral papers.

The presidential tally is yet to be finalized to determine the winner between Raila and Ruto.
